Setting up your account for selling

Once you've registered with eBay, the next step is to set up your account for selling. You'll need to confirm your phone number and tell us how you'll pay your seller fees.

Setting up as a seller is free. You'll be asked to set up your seller account when you list your first item, but it's a good idea to do it in advance to avoid delays.

In addition to setting up your eBay account for selling, we recommend you also start the process of getting verified on PayPal, as this can take a few days to complete.

Step 1: Confirm your phone number

The first step in creating a seller account is to confirm your phone number. We'll use this number if we ever need to contact you.

To confirm your phone number, click either Call me now or Text me now. We'll send you a PIN. Enter the PIN in the Confirm your contact information area and click Continue.

If you have trouble confirming your phone number, click Resend PIN to get a new number. If you are still having trouble, click Contact customer support.

Take a moment to review your other contact information. Check to make sure your name, address and postcode  are correct before you start selling on eBay. Click Edit to make any changes.

Note: You must provide a UK telephone number to create a seller account. The number may be a landline or mobile number.

Step 2: Tell us how you'll pay your seller fees

When you become a seller, you need to select how you'll pay your seller fees and any eBay Money Back Guarantee reimbursements.

You can pay by PayPal, credit or debit card, or bank account transfer. Learn more about paying your seller fees

Select your payment method, click Continue, and enter the requested information. Read the billing agreement, and if you agree, click Agree and continue.

To ensure your card is accepted:

  • Make sure you've typed in your credit card number correctly.
  • Make sure that the address you've entered matches the billing address on your monthly statement.
  • Check that your credit card or debit card account is in good standing.
  • Check that your account doesn't have an internet or phone order block.
  • For debit cards, use only those with Visa or MasterCard logos.

If you need more help with your credit card or debit card, contact your card issuer.

To ensure your bank account is accepted:

  • Make sure your sort code is correct. You'll find your sort code on your bank statement or on the bottom of your cheques. Sort codes are 6 digits long.
  • Make sure your bank account number is correct. You'll find your bank account number on your bank statement or on the bottom of your cheques.

If you need more help, contact your bank.

That's it - now you're ready to list your first item on eBay.

Step 3: Select the payment methods you'll accept from buyers
